Old Town of Rhodes



The Old Town of Rhodes is a must-see location on the island. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The medieval city has been preserved, and it has incredible architecture, lovely streets, and ancient sites. The architecture is a mix of Byzantine, Gothic, and Ottoman styles, which reflect the various cultures that have occupied Rhodes over the centuries. Other important historical sites located in the Old Town include the Church of Our Lady of the Castle, the Suleiman Mosque, and the Rhodes Archaeological Museum. The town also has a number of lovely squares, including Hippocrates Square and Plateia Argyrokastrou, which are wonderful locations to unwind and take in the ambiance.




Valley of the Butterflies



One of the most popular tourist destinations on the island is the Valley of the Butterflies. It is a beautiful natural reserve located in the western part of the island. The Valley of the Butterflies is home to thousands of butterflies that flock to the area every year. Every visitor can enjoy a leisurely walk through the wooded area. The next landmark that you should not miss during your visit is the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, which is also known as the Kastello. This historical landmark is located in the Old Town of Rhodes. The palace was originally built in the 14th century by the Knights Hospitaller, also known as the Knights of Saint John, who ruled over Rhodes during that time. It served as the headquarters and residence of the Grand Master of the Order of the Knights of Rhodes. Nowadays, the palace is a museum. However, be sure to check the working hours before visiting.

Tsambika Beach



If you are looking for a great beach with a magnificent view, then this one is for you. The water is crystal clear, and it is just perfect for diving. It is located between the towns of Archangelos and Kolymbia. The beach is named after the nearby monastery of Tsambika, which sits atop a hill overlooking the bay. You can combine visiting the monastery with visiting the beach during the day. You can easily reach the beach by car, with parking areas available nearby. Additionally, there are bus connections from Rhodes Town and other major towns on the island to Tsambika Beach.




The Lindos Acropolis



It is a historic archaeological site that can be found in the Greek island of Rhodes' town of Lindos. It is one of the island's most significant and recognizable historical sites and draws lots of tourists each year. The main structure at the Lindos Acropolis is the Temple of Athena Lindia, dedicated to the goddess Athena. As visitors explore the Lindos Acropolis, they can also see the remains of ancient fortifications, Byzantine chapels, and other structures that provide insights into the history and culture of Rhodes.




How to travel there?



Flying or taking a ferry are the two major ways to reach Rhodes Island. Daily flights depart from a number of European locations, and Athens International Airport also serves domestic destinations.Additionally, regular ferry services link Rhodes to neighboring islands as well as Piraeus port in Athens.

The most popular places from which you can fly to reach Rhodes are Prague, Milan, Vienna, London, Manchester, Brussels, Berlin, and Frankfurt.

Moreover, Athens is a great place to catch a flight to Rhodes, even during the off-season. In case you cannot find a direct flight from the country you want to fly from, you can first go to Athens and then fly to Rhodes. On the other hand, if you want to travel by ferry, then it is good to know that daily ferries travel from Piraeus (Athens) to the well-known Rhodes. The majority of these ferries, which are spacious and comfortable to ride on, are operated by Blue Star ships. One-way ticket costs often start at 65 euros.

In general, spring is a great time to travel, whether it is for Easter vacation for Western tourists or the start of summer vacation for Eastern tourists. Due to the pleasant weather and slightly less congested tourist destinations, April and May are among the perfect months to visit Greece, most specifically Rhodes. Between the three months, the average temperature fluctuates from 17°C to 23°C, which means that it is not as hot as it is during the summer. The island is more colorful now that the flowers are in full bloom. On the other hand, summer is the season that most tourists prefer to visit the island. However, if you choose to visit the island, be prepared that during this season, the island is very crowded.

What to eat?



Souvlaki



This is one of the most typical Greek dishes. It consists of grilled skewered meat, typically pork or chicken, served with pita bread, tzatziki sauce, and garnishes like onions and tomatoes. Souvlaki is a must-try when you visit Rhodes.




Octopus



Being an island, Rhodes offers excellent seafood options. Grilled or stewed octopus is a popular choice, often marinated in olive oil, lemon, and herbs. Definitely, you should enjoy the variety of seafood, which is offered on the island.

Rhodes Carnival
