Armenia is well known for its rich cultural heritage dating back thousands of years, with a long and complex history influenced by various empires and kingdoms. The country is also famous for its ancient monasteries, delicious cuisine, and stunning landscapes. Armenia's landscape is diverse and includes rugged mountains, lush forests, and fertile valleys so whether you are professionals or amateurs of hiking here are the best places to go hiking.

Dilijan National Park



One of the best places to hike in Armenia is Dilijan National Park, located in the northern part of the country. The park offers a range of trails for hikers of all levels, from easy walks to more challenging hikes.


The Parz Lake Trail is a short, three-kilometer hike that takes around an hour to complete. The trail encircles Parz Lake and provides breathtaking views of the mountains and trees in the area. Goshavank Monastery route: This easy, 5-kilometer route takes around two hours to complete. The Goshavank Monastery, an Armenian Apostolic monastery from the 12th century, is reached by the trail. Haghartsin Monastery route: This easy, 5-kilometer route takes around two hours to complete. The Haghartsin Monastery, an Armenian Apostolic monastery from the 13th century, is reached by the trail. Jukhtakvank Monastery hike: This 7 km, easy-to-moderate hike, takes around 3 hours to complete. The Jukhtakvank Monastery, an Armenian Apostolic monastery from the 12th century, is reached by the trail. The 13 km (7.5 mi) Dilijan-Mt. Teghenis Trail is a strenuous hike that takes around 6 hours to complete. The trail leads to Mt. Teghenis' peak, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings.




Mount Aragats



Another great place to hike in Armenia is Mount Aragats, the highest peak in the country. The mountain offers several hiking routes with varying levels of difficulty, including the Southern Peak, Western Peak, and Northern Peak trails. The summit of Mount Aragats provides hikers with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.


-Southern Summit hike: This strenuous 12-kilometer hike takes about 7-8 hours to complete. The trail leads to Mount Aragats' southern top, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings.


-Northern Summit hike: This strenuous 7-kilometer hike takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete. The trail leads to Mount Aragats' northern top, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings.


-Trail to the Western Summit: This strenuous trail is about 8 km long and takes 6-7 hours to complete. The trail leads to Mount Aragats' western top, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings.


-Eastern Summit trek: This strenuous trek measures around 8 kilometres in length and requires 6 to 7 hours to complete. The trail leads to Mount Aragats' eastern top, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings.




Khosrov Forest



The best routes for hiking in the khosrov forest state reserve:


Walk to the Halidzor Fortress: This 10-kilometer, easy walk takes about 4-5 hours to complete. The trail continues on to Tatev Monastery from the old fortification remains of Halidzor fortification, which date back to the ninth century. The 12-kilometer Wings of Tatev Trail is a moderate hike that takes 5 to 6 hours to complete. The path leads to the monastery from the Halidzor cable car station, passing through beautiful scenery and providing sweeping views of the Vorotan River Gorge.

Approximately 8 kilometres long and taking 4-5 hours to complete is the moderate Khosrov Monastery Trail. On the slopes of Mount Khosrov, the trail leads to the Khosrov Monastery, an Armenian Apostolic monastery dating back to the fourth century.


Trail to Gutanasar Peak: This demanding trail is around 15 km long and takes 5 to 6 hours to finish. The trail leads to Gutanasar Peak's peak, which provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the surroundings.




Tatev Monastery



Devil's Bridge Trail: The Devil's Bridge Trail is a moderate 7 km hike that takes two to three hours to complete. The trail goes on to Tatev Monastery after passing over the Devil's Bridge, a natural bridge spanning the Vorotan River Gorge.


Trail via Tatev Village: This 8 km, intermediate hike takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete. The path travels to the monastery from the village of Tatev, passing through charming towns and natural settings en route.

The trail is approximately 12 km long and takes around 8-10 hours to complete, depending on your hiking speed and the weather conditions.


Advice for the people who want to hike in Armenia : Check the weather before leaving and make sure you have the right clothing, drink, a cap, good hiking boots, and sunscreen packed. The mountain can be tricky to navigate, so it is advised to hire a local guide for the greatest experience and to secure your safety.
